It would sound like a sweeping statement to make,but success comes with an inherent appeal of its own. Of course, there's no denying that in showbiz, the measure of an actor's desirability is directly proportional to their BO track record. Perhaps that explains Shruti Haasan's newfound , both on and off the screen. After a not-so-'lucky' Bollywood debut in 2009, the actress went hit-less for three years, earning her the tag of being an "iron leg" in Tollywood circles.

But then Gabbar Singh happened and she redeemed herself as the toast of T-Town overnight. The nature of adjectives used to describe her saw a drastic shift. Unlucky, anorexic, wooden and plastic gave way to multi-talented, beautiful, fashionable and more. Then Balupu happened — unleashing a new, improved Shruti Haasan. "What do you mean a hot me?" retorts the actress. It was a photo shoot she did for a fashion magazine, posing in racy lingerie that sealed her transformation from petite to 'pretty hot'.

"First of all, I want to clarify, it wasn't lingerie. It was one of those 'girl things' I guess. You fancy wearing some clothes, but put it off for later, because you want to lose two inches here, a couple of inches there. I was shooting for Balupu and had been swimming a lot. I felt I was in good shape and decided to do the long pending photo shoot. That's all there was to it," she quips.

For her, being beauty "comes from confidence and accepting your body and mind as a woman". She reckons there are different aspects to her personality, and being beauty is just one of them. "None of us are just one person alone, are we?" she asks.

An actor, musician, singer, song writer rolled into one, Shruti certainly has multiple talents. For now though, she's entirely focused on her acting and has learned a thing or two about it. "It's not a marathon that I'm running alone. As an actor, I can just show up and do my job. The success and failure of the film depends on team work. That's why Gabbar Singh came together so beautifully. People still refer to me as Bhagya Lakshmi from the movie, and it implies the character made an impact," she explains.

However, it was 3 that earned her recognition as a performer. Comparisons with her National Award winning parents became a little more flattering. "It was funny. Initially, the critics were like 'she doesn't act like Kamal'. Well, they did not act like Kamal and Sarika in their first film either! Now, they say stuff like, 'she's Kamal's daughter only no, she has acting in her genes'," laughs Shruti.

Even Kamal Haasan felt that Shruti did a good job in the movie and the actress admits the compliment from her father felt good. However, as far as her acting career goes, she's completely on her own. "I'm doing my 15th film now. My parents would have seen 2.5 films of mine. I've never discussed a script with them to ask them for advice before I signed a movie, nor have they ever made any calls for me. Every decision has been my own. I love Kamal and Sarika because they are my parents. But nobody buys me a car because of that, and you aren't flooded with offers either. I'm proud of my lineage, but never really depended on it anyway whatsoever," she says, adding, "After your debut, it doesn't matter whether your parents are actors or factory workers. All that matters is whether you can get the job done."

And it seems to be working fine for her. Shooting for two Hindi films — Gabbar and Welcome Back — one Telugu film — Race Gurram — and an untitled Tamil film simultaneously, the actress is super busy. "Right now,my life is all about moving from one vanity van to the other. I have no life of my own actually. I had just taken two days off for New Year's Eve and since then, I have been working non-stop. I wouldn't want it any other way," beams the actress, who's just joined the sets of Allu Arjun's Race Gurramafter completing the first shooting schedule of the Akshay Kumar-starrer, Gabbar.

So busy is Shruti working with superstars from different languages, that she had no dates to give her father! "My dad has been looking forward to work with me and met me recently. But I did not have the dates, can you beat that!" says the actress, who prefers to classify movies according to genre, rather than language like Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood, etc. With so much work at hand, Shruti admits to having no time for romance either.

"Even if Ryan Gosling were to ask me out, I'd have to check with my directors," she says when asked about her love life. A good relationship requires an extremely good man. I think I've earned that, worked hard to be independent and ambitious so whoever shows up must be able to take better care of me than myself, and trust me, I've not met him," says the actress, who has a simple yardstick when it comes to choosing her man. "He must love me more than I love myself."
